How Effective are Bodybuilding Supplements?

Bodybuilding supplements' effectiveness is a matter of debate. On one hand, you have a lot of bodybuilders who have the physique and swear by the products they use.On the other, workout supplements are considered placebo as there were a few tests made to disprove supplements' effectiveness. Then again, there are other cases, such as acupuncture, where effectiveness is accepted although the explanation behind it is still not in our grasp.

So how effective are bodybuilding supplements?

To answer that, let's look at what they do. There are different types of bodybuilding supplements. The most popular ones are the protein powders, which come in various forms. Some protein powders, such as whey, focus on muscle repair and rebuilding, which are great for more extreme workouts. Other protein powders act as meal replacers, meaning they contain other nutrients in addition to protein.

The Old Way

The old-school method of bodybuilding was simple and leans more towards regular exercise. Workouts target the area that needs toning. If mass is to be built, the bodybuilder will consume protein-rich whole foods to gain some weight. This is known as the process of bulking. Once the desired size is achieved, the bodybuilder will start cutting down on the foods and start working out for the purpose of melting away the fat. This process is known as "cutting."

To many aspiring bodybuilders, this is the core idea of bodybuilding. The fact that a healthy balance of diet and exercise goes on through the whole bulking and cutting process remains overlooked by most. Not to mention that there's also plenty of resting and sleeping involved, as it is the time where our bodies rebuild the muscles that we damage when we work out.

Bodybuilding supplements aim to hasten the bodybuilding process. Most of these give the bodybuilder more energy to perform more reps. Some would hasten the muscle healing process. Others help us build mass faster. There are even those that have advantageous side-effects such as dampening our appetites.

Are they effective or not?

Are bodybuilding supplements effective? The answer is a definite yes. Are they effective in the way they are presented? The answer is a big NO.

See, the problem lies in the advertising. Bodybuilding supplements are advertised as more than supplements, and most people fall for it despite the name. The idea behind workout supplements is that they are supposed to help you lose weight, build muscle, and give you more energy for more intense workouts.

For instance, protein powders help build mass quickly. Think of it as accelerating the bulking process. If you do not follow this up with the right workout sessions, you'll stay in your bulked state.

Bodybuilding supplements are effective, but they do not directly contribute to your bodybuilding needs. What they do is give you energy for more workouts. With more workouts, your muscles get more damaged and supplements help in the repairing process. Simply put, supplements are only as effective as the work you put in to get the ripped body you so desire.

Time to Think about Time

This is a guest post by Isabella . The Millennium Bug seems like a long, distant memory, but in the late 1990s, the Y2K bug was sending fear and panic among network administrators, governments and businesses alike. Cash machines were expected to start dishing out dollars like fruit machines, high interest current accounts would empty, planes would fall from the sky and the world was going to plunge back into the dark ages, as every computer system failed. Okay, things didn’t seem to work out to be that bad. Few if any major computer meltdowns occurred, and the world moved on. The threat of the Millennium Bug was quite simply caused by a lack of foresight by computer manufacturers and programmers. Many computer programs only bothered to store the year in two decimal places, which meant that come the year 2000, a lot of timestamps would go from 99 to 00, essentially making the computer believe it was the year 1900. The debate was never settled whether the Y2K bug was just a damp sq...

Company Takes on Social Media Background Checks for You

There was a day and age where job applicants only had to concern themselves with what was on their resumes and pretty much nothing else. In today's Internet age, however, social media is a big factor and is becoming even bigger as people look for work in the challenging economy. Whether it is what one perceives as an innocent picture or comment that was meant in jest, what individuals say on their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ accounts, and other social media sites is being more closely monitored. According to one CareerBuilder survey of approximately 2,000 hiring managers and human resources professionals, 37% of HR managers reported using social media sites to attain more information on prospective candidates as part of the background checks process. Meanwhile, another 11% said they would be doing likewise soon. For those businesses that may just be starting out or have been around for a while but are newer to social media, social media background checks need to be d...
