Disinfection of Kids’ room

When it comes to house cleaning we are used to kids’ room absolute hellions, tracking mud in and generally making a mess of their room. Even though the serious cleanup jobs are left in the hands of the janitors sometimes we need to do a little bit of that work ourselves. Parents are often faced with minor messes and stains, however the room in itself is a location filled with plenty of germs and bacteria. There are a few things you can do to improve the overall hygiene of the room and what you're using there and we have prepared some tips for you:

  1. Get rid of pencil sharpeners

We all love the mechanical pencil sharpeners so common in most places, however they are one of the worst breeding grounds for bacteria since children love biting the ends of their pencils while thinking, just like almost all of us do compulsively. If one infected kid touches it the chances of any colds or diseases affecting said child to spread among his/her peers is very high. To prevent that either provide your kids with their own automatic pencils or buy an antibacterial pencil sharpener. In the worst cases you can simply use rubbing alcohol to sanitize whatever you can on your sharpener or if they are not automatic simply dipping them in some of it will solve that problem.

  2. Wipe everything

The best way to sanitize the kids’ room is by doing so on every surface your children will touch. Most bacteria are very sturdy and live a pretty long time so make sure you wipe everything well and thoroughly. One of the worst places you'll find germs are computer keyboards and mice, door handles as well as desks, tables and chairs. Make sure you don't use strong disinfectants while the kids are there since they contain hazardous chemicals which need to evaporate. Regular sanitizing wipes will do the job.

  3. Disinfecting toys

Toys are what the kids will touch the most and they'll easily carry germs from one kid to another, so make sure they are properly disinfected and taken care of. Kids can be awfully bad at sharing germs since these toys will be passed along, depending on the age of your children they might even put them in their mouths and so on. As you can imagine this will be a perfect breeding ground for all kinds of germs. Make sure you disinfect those toys regularly.

  4. Air filtration

Although these will most likely not be present in your budget, an air filter will significantly affect the quality of air around the room, keeping allergens and contaminants to a minimum. A lot of germs are transmitted through the air so keeping one of those will sanitize and destroy contaminants thus making infection harder.

  5. Sanitize your hands
Make sure you teach your kids to wash their hands for at least twenty seconds using soap so they can keep their hands clean. Nail biting can be a problem if your kids do it and the germs on their hands will easily find their way inside them that way. Keep some hand sanitizer handy and make sure they use it if you think it is necessary.
