Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime: World’s First Supercomputer Tablet

Starting with the looks, the design is reworked with finish that is more metallic, thickness has gone down to 8.3 mm and the weight decreases to 586 grams. If we talk about the original Transformer, the thickness was 12.9 mm with a weight of 690 grams. The metallic finish makes the tablet more durable and attractive in hand. This new metallic finish has a hydro-oleo phobic coat on both the sides and housing that allows easy smudge and finger print removal.

The quad core tablet has a 10.1-inch super IPS+ Gorilla Glass display at 1280 x 800 resolution, mini HDMI output, and a micro SD slot. The display with a 178-degree viewing angle gives a maximum brightness of 600 nits. Other key features includes, 1GB RAM, eight megapixel rear camera, 1.2 megapixel front camera wrapped in brushed aluminum for video chat and 32 GB/64 GB of internal storage. The rear camera comes with an auto focusing f/2.4 lens and a back illuminated CMOS sensor that has the capability to shoot 1080 p videos. The new sensor and aperture of the camera allows you to take pictures faster than ever. Some common features are USB 2.0, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, gyroscope and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n). The tablet also gives the option of touch to focus and if we believe Asus, it can give 30
percent color enhancement over currently available tablets.

Like the original Transformer, Prime will also give an option to attach an external keyboard that gives a laptop like look and feel. The 1.2-pound keyboard dock includes a touchpad, full sized SD slot and USB 2.0 port. It will feature Nvidia Tegra 3 clocking at 1.3 GHz that will be able to handle heavy use very easily. Apart from that, the processor provides up to 3x graphics performance then Tegra 2 and 63% lower power consumption. If you want to increase the battery backup, use the keyboard dock that gives extra life to the tablet because of the inbuilt battery. With such a huge battery backup, you can watch several movies while on road trip or enjoy hours of hardcore games.

The company improves the sound quality by putting in 17×12 mm speakers that are 6 percent larger than the previous Transformer. These speakers combined with Sonic Master will produce crystal clear sound, audio fidelity, distinctive vocal enhancements and overall a immersive audio experience with your music tracks or movies.

Software features of Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Prime will comes with Android 3.2, but soon it will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Apart from the operating system, it will ship with Sonic Master audio software by Asus, Super Note and Polaris Office. According to the company, the new Sonic Master gives an improved sound quality compared to the previous versions. It will support major audio file formats including AAC, AAC+, MP3 and WMA. Under video file formats it will support h.263, h.264/AVC and MPEG-4 (MP4).

The company is planning to start selling the quad core modular tablet in the beginning of 2012. When it will go on sale, the price will be around $499 for 32 GB and $599 for 64 GB. The cost of the keyboard dock is $149. Prime will be available in two colors, Champagne Gold and Amethyst Gray. According to the company, Prime can give a tough competition to the rivals like Lenovo ThinkPad tablet.
