How to Get Rid Of Old Furniture

Furniture, particular modern doesn't look good after a while and you may feel you no longer want a particular item because you have seen something more fashionable to replace it with in the shops. Even if you are not looking to make much money from selling your furniture it is not always possible to find a new home for it.

In many cases the furniture that you no longer want is still good enough to be used by others. However if it is broken or torn it may need to be thrown away.

Getting rid of furniture for example sofas and tables can be difficult unless you find someone you know who reupholsters furniture and who will take it off you for a small price.

Garage sales - are easy to organize and a great way of turning old furniture into money. Price everything as it is hard to come up with a price on the day especially if you have other people rummaging around firing questions at you. People who attend garage sales are looking for low prices and if you don’t want to have to pack everything back up at the end of the day you should give them the bargains they are looking for. Try to avoid selling on a raining day as customers will be few and far between! You could advertise your sale by making your own discreet signs to be put up close to your property where passers-by can see them. Arrange your furniture so there is enough room between each item allow people to comfortably inspect them.

There are many online places that can help you get rid of your furniture. These sites have specific furniture categories. Browse through the current listings and do some research on how to make a profitable sale. If it is a bidding site there are advantages to listing the prices high but if you list it a lower price it is likely to be snapped up. If bought, the buyer has to pick up the furniture from you. Some websites allow you to give away items for free, they were set up with the aim of diverting goods that nobody wants anymore from landfill sites. As time has gone by they are proving to be very popular.

Donate to charity – One man's rubbish is another man's treasure. The furniture you don't want might be just want another family needs! Charities are very happy to take unwanted furniture but it must be in a usable condition. Many charities if you ring them will come and pick your items up from your home.

You could arrange for the more valuable furniture pieces to be auctioned. Furniture sales are popular at auctions and sometimes if your item sparks real interest will go at higher price than you expected. If it is a real antique piece you could get it professionally cleaned before auctioning it. Wood furniture always spruces up very nicely with a good polish.

Give it away to a friend - second hand furniture is not worthless and can usually give years of use to someone else before it ends up in a skip.

You could try selling your piece via a local paper, though newspapers are not as popular s they used to be. Local classifieds are still a great way of advertising.

Hiring junk removal services – it may cost you a little but is more convenient and quick compared to some other options. Such services specialise in removing old furniture from you if they have passed their sale by date.

Time to Think about Time

This is a guest post by Isabella . The Millennium Bug seems like a long, distant memory, but in the late 1990s, the Y2K bug was sending fear and panic among network administrators, governments and businesses alike. Cash machines were expected to start dishing out dollars like fruit machines, high interest current accounts would empty, planes would fall from the sky and the world was going to plunge back into the dark ages, as every computer system failed. Okay, things didn’t seem to work out to be that bad. Few if any major computer meltdowns occurred, and the world moved on. The threat of the Millennium Bug was quite simply caused by a lack of foresight by computer manufacturers and programmers. Many computer programs only bothered to store the year in two decimal places, which meant that come the year 2000, a lot of timestamps would go from 99 to 00, essentially making the computer believe it was the year 1900. The debate was never settled whether the Y2K bug was just a damp sq...

Company Takes on Social Media Background Checks for You

There was a day and age where job applicants only had to concern themselves with what was on their resumes and pretty much nothing else. In today's Internet age, however, social media is a big factor and is becoming even bigger as people look for work in the challenging economy. Whether it is what one perceives as an innocent picture or comment that was meant in jest, what individuals say on their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ accounts, and other social media sites is being more closely monitored. According to one CareerBuilder survey of approximately 2,000 hiring managers and human resources professionals, 37% of HR managers reported using social media sites to attain more information on prospective candidates as part of the background checks process. Meanwhile, another 11% said they would be doing likewise soon. For those businesses that may just be starting out or have been around for a while but are newer to social media, social media background checks need to be d...
