Motorola Atrix - Half a year ahead of the iPhone 5

This is guest post by Simon about the Atrix and the iPhone. The Motorola Atrix was released in April, months ahead of the new iPhone. We look at the features the device has brought to the market half a year before the new Apple product even sparks up its iOS.

Motorola Atrix has Dual Core Chip

The Atrix came out of the blocks at a gallop, sporting its new dual core Tegra 2 chip. The device can run at a super fast rate and is future proofed for years to come, such is its pace. This dual core processor and the innards of the Atrix will be something that Apple can only hope to emulate when it arrives. The Atrix shares the same inside as the iPad competing Xoom tablet and Apple will probably rely on the same iPad processor for the iPhone 5 upon its introduction.

Atrix with Fingerprint scanner

There have been so many rumours abound that the iPhone will come with this that and everything else and one of the speculations is for the device to come with a finger print scanner. Now, whether this is true or not it matters little, Motorola was the first to do this and have done a great job executing this cool little piece of technology that will impress your friends down the pub.

Social Media Integration

The Atrix offers complete social media integration, and has everything from LinkedIn social media apps to Twitter all in the one mould. This leaves it ahead of iOS 5 which will come out with the new iPhone 5 probably in September and means the Atrix has thought well ahead of the Apple counterpart.

Lapdock

Another rumour here is that the iPhone 5 will have some form of integration with a Lapdock type of product allowing it to be used as a computer. Whether this will happen or not is still up in the air. However the Atrix and Motorola have done this to a very good degree and also first, it must be said this deserves brownie points.

Battery Comparison between iPhone and Motorola Atrix

The Motorola has a huge battery – a 1930 mAh power source which is more than enough to power it for a long period – making it far better than much else on the market. Apple may need to increase the size of their power pack to compete, especially with the upgrade in power needs to meet with all the new chips and tech we expect.

Apple has been ahead in the smartphone market since the launch of the first iPhone back in 2007. But an increasing number of competing manufacturers are starting to take the lead in design and innovation, particularly with Android handsets, and the Motorola Atrix is a perfect example of a device that is pushing the boundaries of mobile technology. Whether or not the iPhone 5 will introduce some of the innovations of the Atrix it is certainly starting to play catch-up in many areas of a market that it helped to create.

iPhone sales help fuel worldwide smartphone numbers

Thanks to record breaking sales figures by Apple for the iPhone 4S by the end of 2011 there was almost a 50% increase in the number of devices up on the previous year. The research by Gartner Inc. claims the figures rose during the final quarter of 2011 thanks to the 30 million plus iPhone 4S' sold by Apple. The results led to Apple becoming the third largest vendor of mobile phones in the world. They also became the top smartphone vendor, with nearly a quarter of global sales in the fourth quarter. Over the rest of 2011, Apple took a fifth of the share of the smartphone market. The UK and wider Western Europe along with North America were the driving forces for the figures, says Gartner. Up until the launch of the iPhone 4S sales were a little slow. Suddenly the spiked as we all ran out to buy the new device. Worldwide, mobile device sales figures reached 476.5 million in the fourth q...

The Concepts of Social Networking in Today's World

In today’s high tech world, networking occurs as much on computers as in “real life” social situations. Social media has opened up a vast new frontier for people to connect with others. Before the advent of social media, people generally networked at social gatherings like mixers, fundraising galas and similar events. Of course, such “face-to-face” networking is still important and common, but social media allows possibilities that did not exist before. One of the problems with older networking models is that often the same people showed up at all the events. The percentage of the population that is active in community events tends to be rather low. On the other hand, almost everyone these days uses social media. Vast reach of social networking According to the latest stats, Facebook alone has more than 900 million active users worldwide with the number continuing to grow. Twitter and Google+ also have large numbers of active users that cross all demographic categories. ...
