The reason why they have not been getting business from online sources in the past is because they have not been involved. More people are turning to online sources when they search for a supplier. Even a local business can use Google Places to market to local customers via the Internet.
  • It is a brochure. A website should be more than just displaying business details. With browser-based applications and intelligent site design, the possibilities are limitless. Your site is a tool of doing business and not just a window display. Even Windows terminal emulator applications can be built into a site to allow suppliers deal with your IBM mainframe. That is some serious technology. A new supplier in a new country doesn’t need to setup a complicated IT infrastructure or spend huge amounts of money on new applications because they can just logon to your website.
  • It is static. The whole point of having is a website to have people coming back. A site that does not change does not give them much reason to be coming back. By visiting a site the customer is staying involved with a company. Content management systems make it easy for anyone to constantly modify a site and add content without any programming ability. A static site is a useless site. Even by simply changing the look of the home page of a website we generate immediate interest.
  • It doesn’t collect data. Data collection of visitors is very useful for any business. It means you know who is coming, where they are coming from, and what they were doing on your site. Cookies are already common, but there is a lot we can learn from having them. You might be a car parts supplier. You have a lot of clients looking at your site from a particular region. It might be time to recruit a local representative and get your business deep into that region.
  • It doesn’t make money. If you are going to invest in a site, you want more than online marketing. You want sales and you want business leads. You want it to collect money. Too often than not, business owners forget their site can be making them money.


With the boom in social media marketing we have seen a boom and re-interest in the power of the Internet. Is it time you got the most out of smart-site design, or do you want to be left behind by your competitors? We are talking the minimum standards of business at this point.
