Is Cell Phone Technology Changing the Workplace Environment?

This is a guest post by Shannen about if the Cell Phone technology changes working enveronment. That’s an outdated question. The workplace environment was changed twice by mobile phones already – the first time, when they were first invented and marketed in a big way; and the second time when they were connected to the Internet. Modern cell phone reviews abound with talk about connectivity and business functions: and of course the modern office is full of people multitasking, sending email on their iFly while they design a cover spread on their MacBook Pro. The business world is owned by mobile technology in all its forms.

So how has the business world changed as a result? The most obvious changes are in location and speed. When email came in, the business world sped up exponentially; when faster email came in it got even quicker; and now you can send and receive emails on your smartphone, you are basically expected to have sorted all your correspondence and already done a good hour’s work on your way in on the train (the answer to that one, people, is to walk or cycle – you stay fit and you can’t use your phone if you want to survive without being creamed by a bus!).

Work is now done wherever you are, whenever it needs to be done. The modern office doesn’t really exist as a physical location any more. Instead its boundaries are defined by phones, laptops, tablets and mobile phone signals. Wherever that invisible beam of connectivity goes, your office goes too.

Cell phone reviews place a high premium on the connectivity capabilities of your mobile device. Note that we no longer really talk about phones – at least not in a business sense anyway. The cell phone is now a mobile device, which is one step away from coming straight out and calling it like it is – an office in your pocket. For the terminally attached to their jobs, this is ideal. You can even upload reports while you’re on holiday!

A word of caution is of course embedded in this post. Cell phone reviews might well go on about how you can work on the go, and send in presentations from the Bahamas and so on – but let’s face it, if you really did work on holiday you’d end up crazier than a bag of cats. The smartphone is a wonderful device when you use it as it was intended – to help you work when you want to. Not when you use it to work all the time. I actually know people whose spouses or partners have banned Blackberries from being turned on in the evening, quite rightly, because a person with an active Blackberry is a person who has not stopped working.

The office environment has changed thanks to the mobile phone – big time. And like every other technological development in the history of humankind, we’ve gotten the wrong end of the stick.

We use our smart phones to work at all hours of the day and night and wonder why we are burned out, stressed and insomniac. Here’s a clue: using your pocket office 24/7 is abusing its capabilities. If Blackberries were guns, everyone you know would be dead. Use smartphones sensibly and your own office can be controlled, by you. Doesn’t that sound nice?

Two of The Best Parodied Mac Commercials of All Time

They say you’ll be able to measure your fame when people start imitating you or making a fool out of you. Let’s take Justin Bieber for example. Bieber, a Canadian teen star made famous by Usher and YouTube, has been mocked and targeted by Internet critics and bloggers all over the world. He’s been victimized everywhere, from YouTube (where millions of parody videos of his music videos are uploaded and viewed every day), to television (with shows like South Park and Saturday Night Live among others), to online blogs and forum sites (where you can find thousands of posters and photos about him). Everyone has something bad to say about Justin Bieber and I’d rather be selling laptops online than counting off all the “Bieber is gay” posters on Google images. But despite all the mockery, Bieber even takes the time to thank everyone for making him more famous by saying: “So I wake up today to almost 15 million on Facebook, over a billion views on YouTube and 6 million of the greatest fans o...

How To Maximize Real Time Communications

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and the primary rate interface (PRI) services that come with the infrastructure have given offices many different options when it comes to real time digital communications. Some of the features of these services can be integrated into an office so that problems are more quickly solved and communications become more efficient and cost-effective. These ways to maximize real time communications in the office can rely on intrinsic features of the technology or they can involve carefully chosen suites of applications that work together. Session initiation protocol (SIP) forking is a feature of many business VoIP services . SIP forking allows a single digital channel to be forwarded to multiple destinations. This can be used to send a call from a single phone to multiple other devices. If an employee is not at a particular station to answer a phone, then the signal can be forked to a cell phone or another location until the employee receives the call. Th...

Backing Up Your Files on the Cloud

This is a guest post by Lauren Bailey about backing up files in cloud . If you’ve read any recent technology-related article on the web lately, it has probably been about cloud computing services. These services are all the rage these days, and with this budding industry come hundreds of startups trying to outcompete each other for your business. Where My Cloud Computing Began For a good while, I had been a big proponent of Dropbox, which is a great thumb-drive cloud service. I essentially use Dropbox as I would a flash-drive; it holds 2 GB for free, and I can access it from any computer with an internet connection. However, when you get to larger data-storing cloud services, Dropbox has some steep pricing ($9.99/month for 50 GB and $19.99/ month for 100 GB). Massive Cloud Storage Thankfully, I never bought into the higher storage pricing for Dropbox because recently I have come across. I never really considered Dropbox a backup service because the company seemed to be focused ...

HTC EVO 3D Confirmed for UK Release

This is a guest post by Simon about EVO 3D from HTC, which is now coming to Europe in July HTC's 3D phone, the EVO 3D, has now been confirmed as heading to UK markets. Although the phone has been known about for some time there was some uncertainty about which markets it would be released in. As the EVO 3D takes a lot of inspiration from the earlier US-only HTC EVO there was some speculation that it would also be bound solely for the United States. The HTC EVO 3D is similar in many respects to the Sensation. There is a similar specs list for hardware although the EVO 3D will feature a parallax barrier display like the ones found on the LG Optimus 3D and the Nintendo 3DS. After LG's device this will be the second 3D smartphone released to many markets although the EVO 3D is much more tantalising in what it has to offer. Like the Sensation the EVO 3D will come with a qHD display and dual core 1.2GHz chip, making it more visually appealing and powerful than the only oth...

How mobile monitoring apps are changing the spy world?

Parents always expect the best out of their children, and so does the employers from their employees. For instance, parents buy their kids a smartphone, and expect them to do well in their academics. Similarly, an employer issues smartphones to their employees to ensure that they excel at work, and contribute towards maximizing profits in the business. However, when expectations are not met, or if you sense that there is something inappropriate concerned to their activities or behavior, then the need to monitor their cell phones arises. In addition, if you suspect that your spouse is giving your share of time and attention to another person, you are certainly left with no option but to monitor their activities. Role of Mobile Monitoring Apps The best method to monitor on someone is through mobile monitoring applications. These apps make your task of monitoring simpler like never before. The application fulfills the spying requirements of distinct individuals accurately. It not o...
