How to Safely Move Computers to a New Office

When moving to a new office, you have a lot to plan. Not only are you boxing up your belongings, you need to move the furniture and computers. With some patience and a plan, you can successfully move your old office to a new office easily and quickly.

If you have old office furniture and don’t want to bring it to the new office, then consider selling it or placing it in storage. If you think you may want to use that old desk again, then wrap in nicely in storage wrap and store it in a storage unit. If you don’t want to use that bookshelf in your new office but it cost you a lot of money and you’ll never find one like it again, move it to storage. A small storage unit for office furniture can be purchased for under $100 a month.

Moving computers can be done if you take the proper steps. Don’t just toss computers into a box for the move. First, turn off all computer equipment and unplug them. Wait until the computers have cooled down before doing anything else.

If you are moving a laptop, then place it securely into a padded laptop bag. Add the cords and separate drives in the bag as well. Label the outside of the bag so you know what is in it. During the move, you may forget that you placed the USB cord in the bag and the label will help you remember.

For other computers, remove the hard drives first and then place the hard drives securely in a padded envelope or small padded box. Wrap the computer in bubble wrap. Make sure all the cords have been removed from the back of the computer. Wrap the cords neatly around the palm of your hand and your elbow to create a nice circle. Then place the cords into a small box.

Don’t forget your computer accessories such as cards, flash drives, your mouse and mouse pad. Securely place these items in a small box. Label all the boxes with a white label and black marker. Also add a label to each box that says “office” so you know that this is office equipment. When the boxes arrive at the new place, then they can be taken and placed in the office for unpacking later on.

Once you unpack, place everything across the floor and review each item. Make sure there is nothing missing before you set up your new office. Remember, when you plug your computer in at the new office to make sure it is off. Once it’s plugged in then you are ready to turn on the computer and get back to work.
